BABY DUMPING

Nowadays, baby dumping become crisis and has chronic increase as many cases are occuring in Malaysian society. As much as we want to deny it, many young people expecially high school student having sex before marriage. A study done by Universiti Putra Malaysia revealed that more than 300 Malay teens aged between 13 and 25 admitted to having had sex, with 85% stating that they did not regret their actions and found sex very enjoyable. They are immature to understand the effect of free sex could have on their lives. So there is no doubt that the problem of baby dumping and absorption will be created because of that.

What is even more sad is that many of them throw away the babies at any places without taking care of it later. In most of the cases, the babies were already dead when they were found by someone else. One of the cause is they are lack of sex education and religious knowledge. Parents should inject the knowledge of sex and religious into their mind of their children when they were small. So they will know the relationship between different gender. Most of parents feel uncomfortable when their kids ask about sex. They also assume that their children will know everything naturally when they become adult. Parents are always claim that their children are too small to know about sex. This make their children gain less information of sex. When they are teenagers, they fell curious and eager to try new things. They tried to have sex with their partners because they would like to try anything that they never try before at this stage.

Another reason is  teenage pregnancy. It is usually happen in teenagers. That pregnancy might not happen if  they make their studies as priority rather than having relationships with the opposite sex. They are too young to take responsible as early parent. So, they choose to dump their baby because they have no capability to grow their child on their own and of course they have no enough money to support a baby. Family also have a big role to prevent baby dumping. Most of teenagers having family problems or family breaks up. They are mostly affected by this kind of situation if both their mother and father decided to a divorce. Some parents also cannot accept if their daughter get pregnant because of wider culture of shame. Society should stop being quick to criticise and judgmental towards unwed girls. Because of this matter, they lost the place were they can depend on when this is happen. They cannot raise their child alone which lead them to dump their child. 

I think this problem will be solved if everyone knows their responsiblity as students, parents and also society. All religions in Malaysia prohibit sex before marriage. As the students or teenagers have to avoid from reading or viewing the pornographic materials. It is also can be the reason in inceasing of unwanted pregnancy.The teenagers have to involve in outdoor activities such as sports, volunteer works in order to avoid from involved in this kind of problem. Another preventation is the parents should be able to spend more time with the children. This is because parents play a high role to educate children to become good in behavior by teaching to stay out of sexual relationship. More over, the parents should keep an eye in every single activity have been involved by children and teach them religious education too when they were small.

School institution need to expose them with sex education. Sex education is not about the free sex. From the process of learning, teacher could educate the young student about his or her body, importance of responsible relationships, the sequences of having unplanned and unprotected sex, what contraceptives do, sexually transmitted disease, HIV/AIDS and how to avoid  sex before marriage. Mass media also is one of the ways to prevent baby from being dumped. People tends to spend more times at home such as watch television, listen to the music and read magazines. So it is nearest medium and the best way to communicate and educate teenagers too. It all about how to protect and prevent themself from being the victim of this matter. Besides that, the suitable sex therapists or phychologist could be presenters of special programme on sex education and set the stage for more personal discussions in homes and school.

                   As conclusion, the problem of baby dumping should be prevent from an early stages. So individual as main role, society and goverment must stand together to prevent this issue. Teenagers especially have to learn to be responsible on what they have done and think maturely on pros and cons of things. Then the religious and educational authorities also must play organising country’s programs and collaborate with parents to nurture the right values in young.  Baby dumping should be eliminated from now on and leave a peaceful and caring society for us.
